Washington Bid Bond
Washington public agencies require a bid deposit with each public works bid, set in each agency's own statute. For counties and second class cities the deposit is at least 5 percent of the bid, and a surety bond is an allowed form.
Washington Performance & Payment Bond
Washington requires a contractor on a public works contract to deliver a bond with a surety company for the full contract price, covering performance and payment of laborers, subcontractors and suppliers (RCW 39.08.010).
Washington Contractor License Bond
Washington contractors must register with the Department of Labor and Industries and file a registration bond. Since July 1, 2024, the bond is $30,000 for a general contractor and $15,000 for a specialty contractor (RCW 18.27.040).
Washington Mechanic's Lien Discharge Bond
In Washington, a property owner or other party who disputes a claim of lien can record a surety bond to release the property from the lien under RCW 60.04.161. The bond amount depends on the size of the lien.
Washington Subdivision Bond
Washington cities and counties may accept a bond in place of finished improvements before a final plat is approved, under the state platting law (chapter 58.17 RCW). Each local code sets the amount and terms.
Washington Maintenance Bond
Washington does not have a general statute for maintenance bonds. They are set by the contract or by a local agency, often as part of subdivision or utility work.
Washington Right-of-Way Bond
WSDOT requires a bond for utility permits and franchises in state highway right-of-way, under chapter 47.44 RCW and chapter 468-34 WAC. Cities and counties set their own rules for local streets.
Washington Permit Bond
Washington cities and counties set their own permit bond rules, such as right-of-way use, grading and demolition permits.
Washington Supply Bond
No Washington statute specifically requires supply bonds. When used, they are set by the buyer or purchasing agency in the contract.
Washington Stop Payment Notice Release Bond
In a few states, an unpaid subcontractor or supplier can serve a stop payment notice (also called a stop notice) on the owner or construction lender, which then holds back money owed on the job.
Washington Notary Bond
Every Washington notary public must file a $10,000 surety bond with the Department of Licensing to get a commission. The commission term is four years.
Washington Freight Broker Bond (BMC-84)
Property brokers registered with FMCSA must keep $75,000 in financial security under 49 U.S.C. 13906. A surety bond is filed on Form BMC-84; a trust fund is filed on Form BMC-85.
