Vermont Bid Bond
No Vermont statute sets a required bid bond amount. For state building projects, 29 V.S.A. § 1108 lets the Commissioner of Buildings and General Services require satisfactory bonds from bidders, so bid security and its amount are set in each agency's bid documents.
Vermont Performance & Payment Bond
Vermont law requires contractors on Agency of Transportation construction projects to file a performance bond and a separate payment bond for labor and material suppliers. The Agency sets the bond amount.
Vermont Contractor License Bond
Vermont has no statewide contractor license bond. Residential contractors on jobs over $10,000 register with the Office of Professional Regulation and must carry liability insurance, but no bond is required.
Vermont Mechanic's Lien Discharge Bond
Vermont's contractor lien law, 9 V.S.A. chapter 51, has no procedure for discharging a lien by posting a bond. A contractor's lien lapses unless the claimant sues and attaches the property within 180 days under 9 V.S.A. § 1924.
Vermont Subdivision Bond
Vermont towns set subdivision rules in local bylaws, and some require a performance bond to make sure roads, utilities or drainage are built as approved.
Vermont Maintenance Bond
No Vermont statute requires maintenance or warranty bonds. The VTrans contract statute, 19 V.S.A. § 10, covers performance and payment bonds only, and 29 V.S.A. § 1108 leaves other bonds on state building contracts to the Commissioner, so maintenance bonds are set by the contract.
Vermont Right-of-Way Bond
Work in a Vermont highway right of way needs a permit under 19 V.S.A. § 1111 from VTrans (state highways) or the town (town highways). The statute does not set a bond, and whether VTrans requires one by policy was not confirmed.
Vermont Permit Bond
Vermont has no statewide permit bond. Towns and cities regulate use of their streets, sidewalks and utility work under 24 V.S.A. § 2291 and set any bond for permits in their own ordinances.
Vermont Supply Bond
No Vermont statute requires supply bonds. The state's bonding statutes cover construction (19 V.S.A. § 10 for transportation projects and 29 V.S.A. § 1108 for state buildings), so supply bonds are set by the purchase contract.
Vermont Stop Payment Notice Release Bond
Vermont has no stop notice procedure. Its contractor lien law, 9 V.S.A. chapter 51, gives a lien on the property and on unpaid contract funds after notice, but has no provision for a bond to release withheld funds.
Vermont Notary Bond
Vermont does not require a bond for notaries public. The Office of Professional Regulation, part of the Secretary of State's office, issues two-year commissions.
Vermont Freight Broker Bond (BMC-84)
Property brokers registered with FMCSA must keep $75,000 in financial security under 49 U.S.C. 13906. A surety bond is filed on Form BMC-84; a trust fund is filed on Form BMC-85.
