Rhode Island Contractor License Bond

Rhode Island contractors register with the Contractors' Registration and Licensing Board under R.I. Gen. Laws § 5-65-3. The registration law does not require a surety bond; contractors must state whether the proper insurance is in effect for each job.

Rhode Island Right-of-Way Bond

RIDOT requires a bond for work in or affecting the state highway right-of-way under a Physical Alteration Permit. The amount depends on the project.

Rhode Island Permit Bond

Rhode Island has no statewide building permit bond; cities and towns set their own for local street and work permits. For work within or affecting a state highway, RIDOT issues a Physical Alteration Permit only after it receives an original bond sized to the project, under Section 4.7 of its permit rules.

Rhode Island Supply Bond

Rhode Island's bond statute, R.I. Gen. Laws § 37-12-1, requires bonds from contractors on state public works contracts awarded by the Department of Transportation or the Department of Administration. It does not set a supply bond; when a buyer wants one, the contract terms set it.

Court and release bondNot used in this state

Rhode Island Stop Payment Notice Release Bond

Rhode Island does not have a stop payment notice procedure, so there is no bond to release one. Unpaid parties use a mechanic's lien on private jobs and a claim on the contractor's bond under R.I. Gen. Laws § 37-12-1 on state public works.

Rhode Island Notary Bond

Rhode Island does not require a notary bond. Under R.I. Gen. Laws § 42-30.1-15, the commissioning officer issues a notary commission for a 4-year term after an $80 application fee; the section sets no bond.
