Louisiana Bid Bond
Louisiana's Public Bid Law, R.S. 38:2218, requires bid security on public works bids. A bid bond must be for at least five percent of the bid.
Louisiana Performance & Payment Bond
Louisiana requires the successful bidder on public works to furnish a performance bond and a payment bond under R.S. 38:2219, each for 100 percent of the contract amount.
Louisiana Contractor License Bond
The Louisiana State Licensing Board for Contractors requires a license applicant to show a net worth of at least $10,000. An applicant below that level must provide security for the shortfall under R.S. 37:2156.1.
Louisiana Mechanic's Lien Discharge Bond
In Louisiana an interested person can cancel a recorded lien statement of claim by posting cash, certified funds or a surety bond with the recorder of mortgages. R.S. 9:4835 sets the amount at 125 percent of the claim.
Louisiana Subdivision Bond
Louisiana parish and municipal planning commissions set subdivision bond rules in their own subdivision regulations. La. R.S. 33:112(D) lets a commission accept a bond with surety, instead of finished improvements and utilities, before it gives final plat approval.
Louisiana Maintenance Bond
Louisiana's Public Bid Law requires performance and payment bonds on public works (La. R.S. 38:2219 and 38:2241), but no statewide maintenance or warranty bond requirement was found. When used, the project owner or local subdivision rules set it.
Louisiana Right-of-Way Bond
The Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development (DOTD) may require a bond or cash guarantee deposit for work in state highway right-of-way, including access connection permits. The amount is set by DOTD to cover the work or restoration.
Louisiana Permit Bond
Louisiana has no single statewide permit bond; parishes and cities set their own. For example, the City of Lake Charles requires every contractor to deposit a $7,500 contractor's bond on the city's form.
Louisiana Supply Bond
No Louisiana statute requires supply bonds. Louisiana's bond statutes (La. R.S. 38:2219 and 38:2241) cover public works; for supply purchases, each state solicitation states whether a performance bond is required and in what amount.
Louisiana Stop Payment Notice Release Bond
On Louisiana public works, an unpaid claimant can file a sworn statement of the amount due with the public entity and record it (La. R.S. 38:2242). Under La. R.S. 38:2242.2, any interested party can cancel that claim by depositing a surety bond, or cash or certified funds, with the recorder of mortgages for 125 percent of the claim.
Louisiana Notary Bond
Louisiana notaries must maintain a $50,000 bond under R.S. 35:71, as amended by Act 258 of 2025, effective February 1, 2026. The errors and omissions insurance option was removed.
Louisiana Freight Broker Bond (BMC-84)
Property brokers registered with FMCSA must keep $75,000 in financial security under 49 U.S.C. 13906. A surety bond is filed on Form BMC-84; a trust fund is filed on Form BMC-85.
